TOGETHER, LET’S RE-USE, REDUCE AND RECYCLE
by Techie C. Gonzales

Reduce, reuse, recycle is the buzz word these days. With the growing consciousness of most people about global warming, various ways have been suggested in order to conserve more our limited resources and lessen the abuse to whatever is left with us here on earth. Add to the fact that prices of commodities have constantly been going up while the purchasing power of the consumers have gone down. Thus, the need to cut on costs or at least stretch the value of the peso.

Whether in the company or at home, there is the need to be conscious about cost-cutting. One can not be very frugal at home while an “Asiong Aksaya” in the office. We always have to remember that the money we provide to our families come from the salaries that we earn from our respective companies.

We have asked some of the employees as to what they are doing now both at home and in the office in order to save on costs. Here are their suggestions:

Daisy Anne F. Poschor, Accountant – Finance
“ For some practical reasons I buy the generic over-the-counter medicines instead of the branded ones. It surely saves you some penny, without sacrificing the quality of the medicine. (maybe we could also practice it here in the office.)”

“I buy refill packs of dishwashing liquids instead of buying those in the easy pour bottles. (which you can re use after buying 1 bottle)”

Ayn Teng, CTO Specialist – SV CTO
- turn off electricity even during office hours in areas not in use.
- maximize the use of scratch papers.
- request supplies only when needed.
- sell used plastic cups and newspaper to junk shops.
- sell empty ink cartridges.

Carmi Inquimboy, CTO Agent – SV CTO
- like in Reservations, CTO should make use of recycled papers in drying off their hands instead of tissue paper.
- turn off air conditioning unit when it is already cold.
- turn off the TV when there are no passengers at the Ground Floor

Cris Mardo, Account Executive – CRL/ET Sales
- Instead of using colored bond papers for the flyers, just send the updated rates and promos to travel agents through e-mail.

Neneth Cabo, Executive Secretary – Office of the Chairman and CEO
-
Make a shopping list to avoid unnecessary purchases. Buy only things that are in promo prices or has free items included.
- Make sure that faucets in the house/office are kept closed when not in use to prevent water spilling.

Cost-cutting is not just a trend. It must be part of our daily routine. It should be practiced so that others will also be inspired to do the same.
