Costa cruises held its first-ever dual inaugural as it christened Costa Luminosa and Costa Pacifica, the latest ships to join the Costa Cruises fleet. Held in Genoa, Italy last June 05, 2009, this is the first time in the history of Italian seafaring that two cruise ships were christened at the same time, in the same place. The Guinness World Records reported that it is an extraordinary event for Costa Cruises, Italy’s largest tourism group and Europe’s no. 1 cruise company to have simultaneously christened two new ships.

Both ships offer significant innovations, with Costa Luminosa, “The ship of light” focusing on visual entertainment while Costa Pacifica, “The ship of music” creating once-in-a-lifetime musical experiences. The two ships, are the 13th and 14th of Costa’s fleet, and both built by Fincantieri for a total investment of approximately €900 million.

The Costa Luminosa has a capacity of 2,828 guests, a unique ship and Costa fleet’s most exclusive and innovative ship, tailor-designed for customers who seek nothing but the best. Lots of ground breaking ideas, and all based on the use of cutting edge technology: 4D cinema with multi-sensorial effects; theatre with a spectacular interplay of lights and colours; a Golf simulator; Playstation World, an area equipped with Playstation 3; jogging and roller skating track and Samsara Spa wellness centre.

The Costa Pacifica, has a capacity of 3,780 guests. For the first time ever, cruise ship passengers will enjoy a complete and unique musical experience: music will not only be the inspiration for the interior design and works of art, but will be “experienced” in each area of the ship.
