INSIDE THE SOUL OF A MUSLIM BROTHER
Ana D. David
|
| Abstinence, prayer, Quran reading, deep faith, are most of the things being practiced by our Muslim brothers and sisters, especially during the Holy month of Ramadan. Non-Muslims like us celebrate with them as they end their Holy Month, but what does it really take to be a pilgrim? |
| August 22nd, able-bodied Asnawi – SV Bilingual Customer Service Agent, started fasting, which is performed until the end of the Holy Month. It is said to be the most prominent practice during the month, not just to get hungry or thirsty but also to sacrifice, show self-discipline and cleanse the inner soul. Moreover, a link between him and Allah is established through meaningful prayers. “I pray five times a day especially during Ramadan”, Asnawi added. Unlike a simple prayer done by most of us, our Muslim brothers and sisters perform many cycle of movement while conducting prayers like standing, bowing, prostrating and sitting, even reciting long sections of Quran. |

ASNAWI INSIDE SAFA AND MARWA
|
| On the 5th of September, Asnawi started to perform Umrah inside the Holiest Building in Mecca known as the Ka-bah. According to Asnawi, Muslims circle around the Black Stone (Ka-Bah) seven times counterclockwise. This is to exhibit the unity of the believers in worshiping One God. Dressed in white robe, Asnawi made his way around the Black Stone chanting “Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk” (“Here I am, O Allah, here I am”) in unison with his brothers and sisters. |

Asnawi ended his journey with the festival of Eid al-Fitr also known as the “Festival of Breaking the Fast”. Non-Muslims like us also celebrated in respect to their tradition/pilgrimage. Asnawi shared, “It has been a meaningful spiritual journey for me, as always, being able to praise Allah in such a way. Eid Al-Mubarak to all my Muslim brothers and sisters.” |
